Immunology @ Toulouse, France

Immunologie is a discipline very much practiced in Toulouse! One can find there not only medical and research laboratories, but also "Big Pharmas" and biotech companies.

Many immunologists in Toulouse work in the Centre de Physiopatholologie de Toulouse-Purpan of the INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de le Recherche Médicale). This is the main center of reserach in immunology in Toulouse and one of the bests in France. Many aspects of the immune system are investigated there with a marked interest on T lymphocytes (their development in the thymus and their involvemnt in the immune response during various physiological and pathological situations (infections, autoimmune diseases, allergies, transplants, cancer etc...)

Various teams (Girard, Maridonneau-Parini, Nigou, Meunier, Neyrolles) are working at the Institut de Pharmacologie et de Biologie Structurale du CNRS. IPBS is well known in particular for its research department working on tuberculosis with a focus on anti-tuberculous immunity.

Various teams (Haenlin/Waltzer, Crozatier/Vincent),  at the Centre de Biologie du Développement are interested in the immune system of the drosophila fly, so dear to biologists !

The teams led by Maha Ayyoub, Jean-Jacques Fournié and H. Avet-Loiseau at the Centre de Recherche en Cancérologie de Toulouse are specialized in anti-cancer immunity and particularly in the case of tumors such as lymphomas. The group of Thierry Levade, s interested in the escape mechanisms used by tumor to avoid our immune response

The team MRN2i at the PharmaDev unit of the Faculté de Pharmacie de Toulouse is specialized in inflammation.

Immunology is also very much taught at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse! You could have immunology courses in the educction programs in medical sciences, veterinary sciences or biological sciences with a master in Immunology & Infectious Diseases and a master in Vectorology, Gene Therapy and Vaccinology .
